Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) – Emerging Priorities and Consumer Driven Research: Bushfire Impact Research Grant

Overview

This program aims to link researchers, institutions, policy makers and professional associations together to gather evidence on the physiological and mental health effects of bushfires and exposure to hazardous smoke over time.

It forms part of Medical Research Future Fund under the Emerging Priorities and Consumer Driven Research Initiative which seeks to support high-quality research that improves patient care, translates new discoveries into practice, and encourages consumers and researchers to work together on emerging priorities.

Outcomes of this research will support the development of individual and community resilience strategies into bush fire preparedness planning. It will also inform policies for preparing and responding to future bushfire events.

A total funding pool of $5 million is available, allocated under two streams:
- $3 million for research into the physiological impacts of prolonged bushfire smoke exposure.
- $2 million for research into the mental health impacts of bushfires on affected communities.

Guidelines are available at GrantConnect.
